looking up definitions and quick internet searches are simply painful.Įink readers are good for pure-text books in ebook formats, and you better not need to read reference books where you have to constantly jump around or look up stuff. and you can’t expect to read stuff where images/figures are crucial. it’s too slow, too small, scrolling is a pain let alone zoom in and out…. It gets far worse reading PDFs in too many ways. you gotta know when you look up in reference books, it’s often jumping back and forth within the entire book, and if you happen to double click by accident or something, you often get lost not knowing where your stuff just went. the devices are slow to respond and there’s no “transition” in page turning. doing so on eink devices like kindle is a huge pain after a while. I often read reference books on digital devices and I constantly need to look things up, as in search and jump from page to page to find stuff. Kindles and other e-ink readers are limited by the nature of the display technology.
