It also produced better compression ratios on a bevy of test files compared to other Linux-based archiving tools I tried. It handles at least a dozen file types that I do not see as available in lightweight archivers. Not all archiving utilities produce the highest compacting efficiency.

Two other considerations are the archive tool’s flexibility in handling more than a few algorithm types and the compression ratios.

Such tools may be fine for occasional use in uncompressing downloaded files, but more rigorous archive needs are better served with a full array of zipping and unzipping features. Other similar utilities are File Roller, Ark and Xarchiver. One of the more common archiving tools distros include is the Gnome Archive Manager. The typical Linux user may only know the archiving tool bundled in the distro. Doing operations such as file compare, checksum, and system benchmarking are all too easy with PeaZip. It will generate random passwords for crunched files. It makes splitting and joining files convenient and securely handles data deletion. It has strong encryption and robust file copy performance. Plus, you can scan and open zipped files with custom applications. Other features let you bookmark archives and folders and conduct multiple search filters to an archive’s content.Īdvanced features make it easy to export archived jobs and save an archive’s layouts.

Use it to create, convert and extract multiple archives at once, or create self-extracting archives.

If you pay for bulk storage or pay to upload and download files, file compression can make a big improvement to your computing investment.

Large video files are becoming all too common, given the growing ease and popularity of mobile devices. Files often consume more storage space inefficiently, especially word processing documents. File formats handle storage space differently. For example, long downloads often cost the recipient large email attachments, both heaps of time and money. One other peeve is if it extracts the same data twice it renames files and creates extra work for me.Įxactly why it needs a default compression value that DEFINITELY does not do that. Why use a top-notch file archiver? After all, we have huge hard drive storage capabilities and mobile access to numerous free cloud storage services.ĭepending on the volume of files you generate or process, you still get an advantage to using file compression. I used it every day for a couple months but got tired of the gui issue etc.Īt least now it has progress indicators. If gui was fixed so that options did not freakin' vanish AND it could hold a default compression value without looking for another file (ridiculous). Using winrar 4.65 now and it is FLAWLESS.

(& peazip) if you simply copy prog folder to another location. I can't see browsing for a saved file in order for this to act a specific way on a regular basis.Īs for being portable-so is winrar, 7-zip, etc. very very irritatingĪlso-Why is there no default compression value. STILL, (as with previous versions) when I go into options and mouseover them they all disappear & I have to mouse again to see what the hell is what the hell. nice move Microsoft, I guess there are just people deserving the Monopoly. defeating the purpose of writing a multiplatform application and bounding developers to work for Windows word.

Why not from context menu (this is in documentation too)? Because Windwos API sucks and you can't pass multiple itmes through a context menu entry, unless you write specific code to query the system for selected items. or you can just use the SendTo menu entry (just one click away) "Add to archive" rather than the context menu entry "Add to SEPARATE archives" (did you get the SEPATATE part?). or just drag them to the application (this way you are not limited to add only from the folder you are browsing as in 7zip, winrar, winzip and the others).

You can add multiple files and dirs to a single archive from the application itself: open peazip and just add files to the archive. You please just take time to read the documentation before spending 10x the time to write absurdities on the web?
